Museum of Art at WSU Reaches $11.5M in Donations for Expansion

May 18, 2016

The Daily Evergreen's Cody Cottier reports that the Museum of Art at Washington State University has reached approximately $11.5 million in donations for its expansion into the Public Safety Building, a project which will establish the heart of campus as a cluster of public facilities.

Cottier writes, "Jordan Schnitzer, a Portland-based philanthropist and 'huge art collector,' has made the largest donation, comprising a third of the total cost. If approved by regents, the expansion will bear Schnitzer’s name."

The expansion, estimated to begin in October, will transform the current Public Safety Building into five new art galleries. Museum Director Chris Bruce says multiple galleries will allow the building to achieve greater diversity and more risk-taking with its exhibitions. “You come expecting to see one thing and you encounter something completely unexpected,” Bruce said, “and your mind is opened up.”
