Word Art will offer a concentrated perspective on the important subject of the use of words in visual art. Including examples by some 30 artists, the exhibition will comprise works that feature a word or series of words with strong connotation and visual impact. By using words that convey a multiplicity of meaning, these artists encourage the viewer to consider all the subconscious nuances of the word(s), which can range from punchy, comedic and subversive to iconic and poetic. The exhibition is co-organized by Frank Verpoorten, director and chief curator of Artis—Naples, The Baker Museum and Michael McKenzie, founder of American Image. The exhibition includes such artists as John Baldessari, Banksy, Louise Bourgeois and Crash, among many others.
